Deer Valley Road Connection to Improve Travel in NW Valley

Northwest Valley residents joined Maricopa County and City of Peoria officials to  celebrate the opening of the new Deer Valley Road Bridge in the Northwest Valley.

The 711-foot-long bridge spans across Agua Fria River at Deer Valley Road and 109th Avenue. Because it’s an all-weather crossing, the bridge will improve traffic flow during storms, give emergency vehicles a direct route to residents living in unincorporated Maricopa County and provide a shorter drive time for residents commuting to and from the City of Peoria.

“This bridge unifies a community,” said Maricopa County Board of Supervisor Clint Hickman, District 4. “On one side of the bridge, you have incorporated Peoria and on the other side, you have unincorporated Cross River and then Sun City West. It’s a great example of the investment of infrastructure dollars in Maricopa County providing a much-needed connection in the Northwest Valley.”

The bridge anchors the larger Maricopa County Deer Valley Road project from El Mirage Road to 109th Avenue, which includes:

  • Two bridges, including the 711 ft. long Deer Valley Road Bridge across the Agua Fria River
  • Widening of Williams Drive between El Mirage Road and 117th Avenue
  • HAWK crossing at 119th Avenue
  • Partnership with the City of Peoria to install roundabouts

“Having a robust transportation system is a critical component of a complete City,” said Peoria City Manager Jeff Tyne. “Connecting roadways like Deer Valley Road are vital to the City’s goals for economic development and its quality of life.”

"Ames Construction is proud to have worked with the County and local community on this high-quality project, safely, on-time, and within the County's budget, " said Jerry Miller, Ames Construction Southwest Regional President.  "We’re excited to be part of opening a new all-weather east-west crossing of the Agua Fria River. This will help alleviate the traffic seen on Bell Road and Happy Valley Parkway.  The project will provide a better connectivity to the Northwest Valley Community."

“Our mission is to provide connections that improve people’s lives,” said Jennifer Toth, Maricopa County Department of Transportation Director. “This project provides residents with a safe connection across the Agua Fria River that they can use by car, bike or foot.”
