[ARCHIVED] Statement from Maricopa County Board of Supervisors on Today's Election

vote

Members of the Maricopa County Boarrd of Supervisors issued the following statement on the March 17, 2020 Presidential Preference Election:

"Running an election—any election—is difficult. It requires good planning, rapid response to changing circumstances, and exceptional people from leadership and individual poll workers right down to county employees who volunteer their time and talents. To say we had all three of those on brilliant display in this election would be an understatement. To say we are grateful is even more of an understatement.

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, with the hard work of Director of Elections Day and Emergency Voting, Scott Jarrett, ran a successful Democratic Presidential Preference Election at a time of unprecedented uncertainty and with the backdrop of a national emergency. We provided eligible voters the opportunity to vote how and when they wanted to while also protecting their health and that of our workers.

To the county staff who answered the call and volunteered on election day and before, and to those pulled into the mix at the 11th hour, you are the best of us. Your commitment to others is seen, valued, and appreciated. We could not have done this without you.

To the Elections Department staff who have been living and breathing this every day for months, you are the backbone of our operation. Your experience, your insights, and your long hours are the reason that we were able to serve more than 45,000 voters on election day.

Finally, we want to thank Scott Jarrett for his tireless work in planning and executing a successful election. Since his appointment, Scott has been engaged each and every day in the effort to run best-in-class elections. When the COVID-19 pandemic forced all of us to adjust our plans, he stepped forward with solutions that put voters first.

The Board of Supervisors is committed to running successful elections throughout 2020."
