Located in one of the fastest-growing and largest counties in the nation, the Maricopa County Air Quality Department (MCAQD) is committed to increasing compliance with air quality permits and regulations, and strengthening the community's knowledge of air quality issues. Air quality has improved significantly over the last 20 years, and MCAQD continues to develop innovative programs to inform and engage the community. From continually monitoring the air we breathe and permitting and inspecting sources of air pollution, to developing award-winning school education and pollution reduction programs and increasing community outreach efforts, MCAQD strives for excellence in all aspects of meeting our goals.  

Mission

MCAQD’s mission is to improve the air of Maricopa County so customers, residents, and visitors can live, work, and play in a healthy environment. MCAQD is governed by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors and the air quality standards set forth in the federal Clean Air Act.
