Mosquitoes in Your Neighborhood

Maricopa County Mosquito Surveillance Program

Through the years Maricopa County Environmental Services Department has developed and implemented a surveillance program where we monitor hundreds of routine sites - areas that have been identified as problem areas or mosquito-breeding sites. We deploy over 800 mosquito traps to these areas every week. In addition, we also set-up traps in other areas based on mosquito complaints we receive. This proactive approach allows us to monitor mosquitoes and mosquito activity county wide, which helps minimize the risks of mosquito-borne diseases in our communities.

Mosquitoes in Maricopa County

Mosquitoes have a serious impact on the health, comfort, and economic welfare of people. Some species transmit diseases to man and animals.
In Maricopa County, there is particular concern with mosquito-borne encephalitis (sleeping sickness). Large numbers of mosquitoes interfere with outdoor work and recreation, cause livestock to lose weight, and lower property values.
