    Nutrition

Children in Head Start learn as much about nutrition as they do about colors, letters, shapes and numbers. Various activities teach healthy food choices and simple food preparation. Nutritionally-sound meals and snacks are provided daily in each classroom. Rather than eating in a cafeteria, Head Start children take part in a family-style setting where they set the table, serve food, and socialize with each other.

Head Start/Early Head Start will accommodate your child's individual medical or religous dietary needs. A registered dietician is available to consult with parents and will provide assistance to teachers to ensure that dietary requirements are observed during classroom meals. Parents are encouraged to assist with feedback on meals, the incorporation of culturally appropriate and diverse meal choices.

Meal time for Head Start children is an extension of the curriculum. Head Start exposes children to a variety of different foods and promotes a healthy lifestyle.
