Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Rehousing Program
The County is in the process of preparing a substantial amendment to the FY 2008-2009 Maricopa Urban County Annual Action Plan to allow for the use of Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Program (HPRP) funds under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Allocated funds will provide: financial assistance and services to prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless and help those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed and stabilized. The funds under this program are intended to target individuals and families who would be homeless but for this assistance. The funds will provide for a variety of assistance including: short-term rental assistance and housing relocation and stabilization services, including such potential activities as mediation, credit counseling, security or utility deposits, utility payments, moving cost assistance, and case management.
Maricopa County has been identified as a possible recipient of up to $900,303 for this program. The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development published details, rules and requirements for the HPRP in the Federal Register on Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Information on the HPRP program regulations, funding allocations and other information can be found on HUD's website at www.hudhre.info.
